Norris has gone 8-2 against Waverly recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Titans will be taking part in a tournament against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Norris comes in on seven and Waverly on five.
If Norris beats Waverly with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Titans came out on top against Blair by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Eli Starner looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Norris' victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Monroe, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Norris hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blair struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Waverly faced Gretna East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Griffins 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since March 28th.
Drew Koch made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Koch was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Carsen Malcolm was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Thoms, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
Norris' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Waverly, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Norris hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Waverly struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Norris skirted past Waverly 7-5 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
