The Salisbury Hornets will face off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Salisbury will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Statesville on Tuesday. Salisbury was the clear victors by a 22-10 margin over Statesville. Considering the Hornets have won three games by more than 11 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashley Yang made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. She also tossed eight walks, marking her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allison Peeler, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Addisyn Myers was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, everything went Wheatmore's way against Gray Stone Day on Friday as Wheatmore made off with a 15-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Like Salisbury, Wheatmore also got a great game from a two-way player: Bella Dill. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Dill was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kyndal Kindley was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Savannah Heiney, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Wheatmore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray Stone Day only posted an OBP of .370.
Salisbury's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wheatmore, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Salisbury has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .618. However, it's not like Wheatmore struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
