Baseball Recap: Columbian Wins Going Away Against Norwalk

Columbian came out on top against Norwalk on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Tornadoes put the hurt on the Truckers with a sharp 12-2 win. The matchup marked the Tornadoes' most dominant victory of the season.

Blake Gaulden was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Gaulden was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jayce Arias was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wilcox, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Columbian pushed their record up to 7-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Norwalk, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-7.

Looking ahead, Columbian will take on Willard at 4:45 a.m. on Friday. The Crimson Flashes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.55 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Norwalk, they will challenge Ashland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
