The Westwood Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Vero Beach, falling 59-18. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while Vero Beach is ranked 186th).
Westwood got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Jihla Greer and
Jaydah Reynolds, who each put up six points.
Vero Beach got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kamya Riggins out in front who scored ten points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Riggins has scored all season. Ekklesia Anderson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and five steals.
Westwood's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-9. As for Vero Beach, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Westwood will face off against Sebastian River at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sebastian River is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Vero Beach, they will be playing at home against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
