Mary Star of the Sea scaled the state rankings by moving to 768 from 808 this week, the biggest jump in Del Rey. The Stars climbed the ranks as a result of topping St. Bernard 50-14.
Verbum Dei took down Cantwell-Sacred Heart 46-10 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jacob LaRue ran for 210 yards in the win.
David LaSalle was a key player and the best on defense this week as La Salle bested Bishop Montgomery. The 6-foot-0 defensive end racked up 1 sack.
Shane Nunez was a beast in the backfield as Mary Star of the Sea topped the Vikings.
Steven Chavez put up the best numbers through the air as St. Bernard lost to Mike Marinkovich's team. He finished with 24 completions for 367 yards. Chavez's favorite target this week was Kyle Harris, who caught 9 passes for 190 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Chavez of John Bibb's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,707. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Chase Busse. The Cantwell-Sacred Heart star has 40 catches for 526 yards.
The Stars' Nunez is a mere 23 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Nunez has rushed for 977 yards on 150 carries so far this year.
At the moment, the Vikings are in fourth, while the Knights are in third.
Mary Star of the Sea led the league in scoring this week by notching 50 points on St. Bernard. Nunez ran for 259 yards during the win.
