Coldwater has gone a perfect 5-0 against Hastings recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cardinals will host the Saxons at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Coldwater fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pennfield on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5.
Dayton Ennis was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Ennis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Owen Tappenden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, Hastings was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Northwest. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Saxons have suffered since May 18, 2024.
Hastings also got a good showing from Hunter Tomlinson, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
At the plate, Hastings saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grady Reed, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Hastings' loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Coldwater, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything went Coldwater's way against Hastings in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Coldwater made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Saxons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
