Manzano has gone a perfect 10-0 against Rio Grande recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Manzano Monarchs will host the Rio Grande Ravens at 10:00 a.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Manzano is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Highland a 13-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Monarchs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The result came thanks to Briana Largo's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Shania Aragon, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Rios Duvall, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-1.
Manzano always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Rio Grande not only won last Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024. Everything went their way against Sandia Prep as Rio Grande made off with a 17-5 win. The Ravens haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Jaslyn Gallegos made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Gallegos was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Brianna Knight was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Ceanna Sanchez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Rio Grande, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Everything went Manzano's way against Rio Grande in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Manzano made off with a 21-2 win. Does Manzano have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rio Grande turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
