The Rocky Mount Gryphons will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hertford County Bears at 7:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Rocky Mount had to suffer through a rough 63-25 loss at the hands of Westover. Rocky Mount was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-18.
The losing side was boosted by Anthony Jones, who scored 4 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Hertford County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Peninsula Catholic on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 74-72. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite their defeat, Hertford County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Rimiez Williams, who scored 27 points along with 8 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Shimere Garris was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Hunt's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Rocky Mount's loss dropped theirs to 0-1.
Rocky Mount didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hertford County in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 71-67 victory. Will Rocky Mount repeat their success, or does Hertford County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
