Floyd Central hasn't had much luck against Lawrence County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jaguars are taking a road trip to take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Floyd Central and Pike County Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Jaguars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hawks 3-2.
Floyd Central got a great performance from Landon Prater as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Prater has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jace Martin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Kolten Crum, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lawrence County made easy work of Martin County on Wednesday and carried off a 16-1 win. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Boedy Maynard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Maynard was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Eli Fletcher was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Gray Derifield was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lawrence County pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Floyd Central, their record is now 13-9.
Floyd Central might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Lawrence County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
