The Scituate Spartans will face off against the North Kingstown Skippers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scituate has three straight victories, North Kingstown has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Scituate is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against North Providence on Wednesday as they made off with a 21-1 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.
Isabella Rotondo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lily Maggiacomo was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Victoria Geisser, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Scituate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, North Kingstown faced La Salle Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Skippers lost 14-1 to the Rams.
North Kingstown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Mezzanotte, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
North Kingstown's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Scituate, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
North Kingstown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Scituate has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for North Kingstown, though, as they've only averaged .337. Will they be able to contain Scituate's hitters?
Scituate might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from North Kingstown in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
