The University Cougars waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Olympia by a score of 45-33. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to post ten more assists than your opponent, as University did.
University got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Haley Caldwell out in front who scored 13 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Caldwell grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Jacqueline Leap, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Olympia still got an impressive performance from Arlinda Roundtree, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Roundtree has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary-Kate Louissaint, who scored six points along with 19 rebounds.
University's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11. As for Olympia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
University will head out on the road to take on the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Timber Creek presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in Florida (the Wolves are ranked 46th, while the Cougars are ranked 316th). As for Olympia, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
