General McLane is 9-1 against Fort LeBoeuf since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lancers will face off against the Bison at 4:30 p.m. General McLane will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, General McLane narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Harbor Creek 3-2. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by just one run.
Jordan Cannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charlie Salvo and Alex Clark did most of the damage at the plate: Salvo went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Clark went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Salvo has launched this season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: General McLane lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Fort LeBoeuf came up short against Cathedral Prep on Wednesday, falling 23-11.
Grady Matkovich led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Nick Askins was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
General McLane's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Fort LeBoeuf, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Fort LeBoeuf's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. General McLane has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Fort LeBoeuf, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will General McLane keep running through batters, or will the Bison buck the trend?
Everything went General McLane's way against Fort LeBoeuf in their previous matchup back in April, as General McLane made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
