The Perkins Pirates put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Columbian 55-28 on the road. The result was nothing new for Perkins, who have now won eight matches by 24 points or more so far this season.
Perkins' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Bunts, who rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Bunts is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Lesch, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
Perkins' win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Woodward and 0-10 Norwalk (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.2% over those games). As for Columbian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Perkins will take on Vermilion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vermilion is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Columbian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ashland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Columbian is ranked 50th).
