Palo Verde has gone a perfect 5-0 against Silverado recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Skyhawks at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Palo Verde has 18 straight victories, Silverado has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Palo Verde made easy work of Faith Lutheran and carried off an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Haley Kearnes was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Makayla Enriquez and Taylor Johns did most of the damage at the plate: Enriquez went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Johns went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Enriquez has posted since back in March. Alexis Kearnes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Palo Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Lutheran only posted an OBP of .111.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Silverado's offense. They lost 20-0 to Bishop Gorman last Thursday.
Palo Verde's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Silverado, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Silverado's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Palo Verde has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Silverado, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Palo Verde's sizable advantage in that area, the Skyhawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Palo Verde took their victory against Silverado in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-3 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Skyhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
