New Athens extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians, falling 21-7. The Yellow Jackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians/Lady Indians from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.
New Athens saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izabella Wilmsmeyer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another was Jamie Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
As for Carlyle, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1. Considering they have won three matchups by more than 12 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Carlyle's side, Ava Meyer made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Meyer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Johnson, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Maddy Rae Schomaker was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Coming up, New Athens will be playing in front of their home fans against Nashville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Carlyle, they will square off against Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.6 runs per game on average), something the Indians/Lady Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
