Millbrook has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Rolesville Rams at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Millbrook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Millbrook came up short against Wakefield and fell 55-45. While losing is never fun, Millbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Wakefield is ranked 103rd).
Despite the defeat, Millbrook had strong showings from Lauren Brown, who scored ten points along with four blocks, and Aaliyah Graham, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals. Graham hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Millbrook struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Rolesville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Knightdale at home to the tune of 81-26. Rolesville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 25 points or more this season.
Rolesville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caitlyn Jones, who scored 30 points along with three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Rolesville's points. Another player making a difference was Laila Lewis, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Millbrook's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Rolesville, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Millbrook have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rolesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Millbrook was dealt a bruising 76-43 loss at the hands of Rolesville in their previous meeting back in January. Can Millbrook avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
