The Gaithersburg Trojans were the 64-58 winner over the Whitman Vikings when they last played one another back in February of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. Gaithersburg lost to Whitman on the road by a decisive 76-61 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, Gaithersburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Whitman is ranked 60th).
Leading Whitman to victory were Titian DeRosa and Thomas Farrell. DeRosa scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Farrell went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farrell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Walsh, who scored 12 points.
Gaithersburg are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7. As for Whitman, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.
Gaithersburg will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Sherwood on January 30th. Whitman won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Quince Orchard at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Quince Orchard's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
