The Bishop Gorman Gaels will square off against the Coronado Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bishop Gorman was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Spring Valley on Thursday. The Gaels put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 9-3 victory.

MAKAMAE EUGENIO made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CHARLIE SIMI, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was SOPHIA KIRKPATRICK, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
Bishop Gorman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 11-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Coronado faced Southeast Career Tech in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars never let the Roadrunners get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Roadrunners recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Sarah Lopez, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Southeast Career Tech off the board.
On the hitting side, Coronado let Alohi Mundon and Bailey Goldberg run wild. Mundon went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Goldberg went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Sophie Bendlin was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Coronado's win bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Bishop Gorman, their victory bumped their record up to 16-11-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Gorman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Gorman was able to grind out a solid win over Coronado when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-5. Will the Gaels repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
