The Redwood Rangers entered their tilt with the Golden West Trailblazers with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. Redwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Golden West on Tuesday and snuck past 51-49. Given Redwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Golden West is ranked 761st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Redwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaac Esquivel out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Esquivel scored 15 or more points. Cole Gilcrest was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Redwood is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a massive bump to their 20-8 record this season. As for Golden West, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Redwood will take on Mt. Whitney at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Redwood is coming into the match with seven straight wins at home, meaning Mt. Whitney will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. Golden West will take on El Diamante at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. El Diamante will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Golden West surely won't give up without a fight.
