The Tuscarawas Valley Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Conotton Valley Rockets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Saturday, Tuscarawas Valley made easy work of Carrollton and carried off a 16-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.
Tuscarawas Valley got a big performance out of Hailee Rotunno, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Rotunno has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Morgan Wright, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
Tuscarawas Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carrollton only posted an OBP of .238.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Conotton Valley). Everything went their way against Malvern on Thursday as they made off with a 21-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.
Brooklyn Kelley and Maddison Kelley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kelley tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Meanwhile, Maddison pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. At bat, Kelley went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Maddison went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Davis, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenica Frutig, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Conotton Valley's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Tuscarawas Valley, their record now sits at 20-1.
Tuscarawas Valley couldn't quite get it done against Conotton Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
