The First Presbyterian Day Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell to John Milledge Academy 67-61. While losing is never fun, First Presbyterian Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 498th, while John Milledge Academy is ranked 183rd).
First Presbyterian Day lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Wills Handberry, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Chris Davis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
First Presbyterian Day's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-10. As for John Milledge Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Presbyterian Day will take on Gatewood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gatewood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully First Presbyterian Day likes a good challenge. John Milledge Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Deerfield-Windsor at 3:30 p.m. on January 13th.
