The Western Tech & Environmental Science Wolverines will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Southern Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Western Tech & Environmental Science ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 58-50 victory over Carver A&T. The victory was just what Western Tech & Environmental Science needed coming off of a 55-35 defeat in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Southern put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Monday. They breezed by Calvert on the road to the tune of 54-6. Given Southern's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabrielle Tompkins out in front who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Sidney Shaw, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Western Tech & Environmental Science's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6. Southern's record is now 8-5.
