On Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, HRK beat Kalamazoo HomeSchool 47-41. Given HRK's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 60th in Illinois, while Kalamazoo HomeSchool is ranked 219th in Michigan), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
HRK got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chelsey Gardner out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Gardner 's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Molli Ward, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for HRK and bumps their season record up to 15-1. As for Kalamazoo HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. HRK is on the road again on Saturday and play against Northside L at 10:30 a.m. on January 6th. As for Kalamazoo HomeSchool, they will take on Battle Creek Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Battle Creek Academy's defense has only allowed 22.8 points per game this season, so Kalamazoo HomeSchool's offense will have their work cut out for Kalamazoo HomeSchool.
