2A District 7 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Jake Sofianos and KJ Ruff provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Zion Lutheran. The connection was good for 60 yards, the longest such play in 2A District 7 this season.
Glades Day extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Jupiter Christian, 41-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Coral Springs Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sofianos threw for 88 and three touchdowns and Ruff had 77 yards receiving. On the ground Isaac Wolf chipped in 108 yards. Wolf helped Coral Springs Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.
The Crusaders' Sofianos and Ruff have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-7 quarterback Sofianos has thrown for 129 yards this season, while Ruff has two catches for 77 yards. Kelvin Taylor from Glades Day leads the league in rushing with 884 yards.
A big matchup in 2A District 7 this week will be when Coral Springs Christian takes on Highlands Christian. At the moment, Monte Gonzalez's team is in second, while the Knights are in fifth.
Village Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, Village Academy triumphed over Summit Christian 19-0.
