Clyde-Savannah is 0-10 against Lyons since May of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Golden Eagles will face off against the Lions at 4:45 p.m. Clyde-Savannah is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Clyde-Savannah took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against East Rochester by a score of 11-7.
Larissa Walters was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Taylor Record also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Lyons won against Waterloo on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Lions beat Mynderse Academy by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Keira Weber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Richardson, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison VanLare, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Lyons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.
Lyons' win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Clyde-Savannah, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Both Clyde-Savannah and Lyons just can't seem to miss. The Golden Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Lyons struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clyde-Savannah suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Lyons when the teams last played back in April. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
