The Hunter Wolverines will take on the Providence Hall Patriots in a tournament on Friday. Hunter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.3 runs per game this season.
Hunter will bounce into Friday's contest after beating West, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 26-1 win on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.
LEILA AIONO made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on KENYA LAPUAHO, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was ALEXA OLSEN, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Hunter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Providence Hall, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Delta on Thursday, sneaking past 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since May 8, 2025.
Like Hunter, Providence Hall also got a great game from a two-way player: Taycee Metts. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Metts was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Londyn Schaffer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Rylee McMillan was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Hunter now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Providence Hall, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 2-13.
Providence Hall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hunter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Providence Hall, though, as they've been averaging 12.2 hits. Given Hunter's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hunter might still be hurting after the 13-7 defeat they got from Providence Hall when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
