The Axtell Eagles lost against the Clifton-Clyde Eagles back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Axtell suffered a tough 60-35 loss at the hands of Clifton-Clyde. Axtell has struggled against Clifton-Clyde recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clifton-Clyde to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sevy Wurtz, who scored 20 points along with five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wurtz has scored at least 25% of Clifton-Clyde's points. Shea Wurtz was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Axtell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Clifton-Clyde, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Axtell will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Linn at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Clifton-Clyde, they will be playing at home against Washington County on Tuesday. Washington County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Clifton-Clyde is ranked 19th).
