Mulvane (Kan.)'s advantage, which at one point stood at 17 points, dwindled to seven before the final whistle blew on a 20-13 victory over
Rose Hill (Kan.).
The Wildcats were up 14-3 at the half after taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by
Nolan Smith in the first quarter.
Mulvane expanded its lead to 17 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored once in the quarter on a
Ty Redington touchdown pass to
Alex Evans.
With the win the Wildcats extended their winning streak to five games. Mulvane defeated the Wildcats 42-7 last week.
Redington stood out for MHS in the win. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown, ran for one touchdown and kicked one extra point. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Rockets' lone touchdown came on a 2-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Rose Hill took, 38-7.
The defeat comes as a step back for Rose Hill, which notched a 28-12 victory over Winfield in its previous outing.
Mulvane (5-0) will play a Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division III game against McPherson next week, while Rose Hill (1-4) will take on El Dorado also in a Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division III game.
