Deerfield scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 60-51 to the Lake Forest Academy Caxys. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Caxys are ranked 99th).

Despite the loss, Deerfield saw an underclassman step up: freshman Eve Engler posted 24 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Engler a new career-high in blocks (five). Another player making a difference was Chloe Cooper, who had 11 points and seven assists.

Deerfield has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-21 record this season. As for Lake Forest Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.
