The West Lincoln Rebels will head out to challenge the Bunker Hill Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
West Lincoln took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Maiden by a score of 11-7. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rebels needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Gabrielle Wright was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Wright was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, West Lincoln let Abree Sutton and Quinlyn Avery run wild. Sutton went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Avery went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Stacia Cowan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
West Lincoln lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 4-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Bunker Hill had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Warriors. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by just one run.
Serena Thurman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bunker Hill's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Stuebe, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Bunker Hill's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Bunker Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Lincoln might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Bunker Hill when the teams last played on March 11th. Can West Lincoln avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
