Westhill extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-6 in the process. They lost 15-6 to the Chittenango Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 last Thursday.
Sophia Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Grace Horning was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.
As for Chittenango, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
On Chittenango's side, Lauren Machan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Machan has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, MacKenna Palko was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Juli. Coon, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Coincidentally, Westhill and Chittenango will both be playing Jordan-Elbridge the next time they take the field. The Warriors will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Bears will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
