The Firebaugh Eagles lost against the Dos Palos Broncos back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Firebaugh fell 14-6 to Dos Palos. While losing is never fun, Firebaugh can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 669th, while Dos Palos is ranked 332nd).
Firebaugh's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Fernandez, who gained 189 total yards and a touchdown, and Isaac Ceja who threw for 163 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Fernandez was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards.
Even if they lost, Firebaugh's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Corbin Diedrich.
Dos Palos was led to victory by Andre Flores and Drake Hennagan. Flores only rushed for 33 yards and and a rushing score, while Hennagan rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Firebaugh now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Dos Palos, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Firebaugh will take on Mendota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Dos Palos, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Coalinga at 7:30 p.m. Coalinga is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
