Williams is 3-0 against Red Mesa since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Williams Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Red Mesa Redskins at 5:30 p.m. Williams is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Williams, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-43 loss to Rock Point. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Williams in their matchups with Rock Point: they've now lost nine in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kai Mortensen , who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. She scored a full 27.9% of Williams' points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliegh Amos, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Red Mesa came up short against Whitehorse on Tuesday and fell 51-39.
Despite the loss, Red Mesa had strong showings from Shyla Pipkin, who scored 7 points along with 12 rebounds, and Daleni Nakai, who scored 12 points along with 9 rebounds. Nakai scored a full 30.8% of Red Mesa's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mogollon's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Williams' defeat dropped theirs to 5-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Williams have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Red Mesa, though, as they've only made 27.8% of theirs this season. Given Williams' sizeable advantage in that area, Red Mesa will need to find a way to close that gap. Williams was able to grind out a solid win over Red Mesa in their previous matchup back in February, winning 51-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Williams since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
