Grants is a perfect 9-0 against Highland since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Hornets at 3:00 p.m. Grants has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
While Grants' win against Espanola Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Sundevils 15-14.
Olivia Toivanen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Toivanen was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Grants got a massive performance out of Annora Graham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Graham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrhyanna Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Grants was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 12 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They lost 23-0 to Belen.
Grants is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 2-20.
Everything went Grants' way against Highland in their previous matchup on April 8th, as Grants made off with a 16-0 victory. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
