East Bay recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to San Ramon Valley, who took down 67th ranked Monte Vista, 32-28. Cameron Birse threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Granada moved up to 214 from 245 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Bay. The Matadors climbed the ranks as a result of besting Livermore 35-3.
Jalen Avery was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs lost to the Wolves. Avery racked up five receptions for 136 yards. Mason Melin helped Monte Vista's passing attack out by catching five balls for 70 yards.
Casey Soltis was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 117 yards as Granada lost to San Ramon Valley. Teammate Matt Richards added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Birse of Mark Kessler's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2433. He has also thrown 22 touchdowns. On the ground, California's Karris Johnson has rushed for 1162 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Avery. The Monte Vista star has 45 catches for 874 yards.
Craig Bergman's team's Zack Chang needs only 49 yards against Pittsburg next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Chang has rushed for 951 yards on 207 carries so far this year.
Amador Valley and Foothill played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Amador Valley eventually emerging with a 28-24 victory.
