The Stonington Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Fitch Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Stonington was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 72-71 to Griswold. Stonington has not had much luck with Griswold recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Meanwhile, Fitch faced New London in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Fitch put the hurt on New London with a sharp 84-64 victory on Friday. Fitch has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Fitch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayvon "JJ" Robinson led the charge by scoring 28 points along with six assists and five steals. Robinson is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Xavier Goode, who scored 29 points.
Stonington's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Fitch, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Stonington came up short against Fitch when the teams last played back in March of 2021, falling 47-40. Can Stonington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
