Basketball Recap: St. John's Catholic Prep Comes Up Short

St. John's Catholic Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-53 heartbreaker at the hands of Notre Dame Prep. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Notre Dame Prep are ranked 21st).

Loss or not, St. John's Catholic Prep got some senior leadership from Samantha Shively and Olivia Bolduc. Shively dropped a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds, while Bolduc posted 16 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shively has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Breana Vance, who put up ten points.

St. John's Catholic Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Notre Dame Prep, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John's Catholic Prep will venture away from home to take on Howard at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Howard will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something St. John's Catholic Prep surely won't give up without a fight. As for Notre Dame Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Washington at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
