The Delta Eagles suffered their biggest defeat since November 7, 2023 on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 60-36 walloping at the hands of Jay County. While losing is never fun, Delta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Jay County is ranked 36th).
Despite the defeat, Delta saw an underclassman step up: Jillian Barr scored 14 points along with nine blocks and six rebounds. Barr is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. Paizley Cool was another key contributor, scoring three points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Jay County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isabella Denton led the charge by scoring 16 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Denton scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Muhlenkamp, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Delta's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Jay County, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.
Delta will head out on the road to take on Shelbyville at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Shelbyville will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Jay County will take on Southern Wells at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
