The Chatsworth Chancellors are taking a road trip to square off against the Garfield Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Chatsworth is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They skirted past Poly 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Chancellors in their matchups with the Parrots: they've now won six in a row.
Sammy Roldan spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chatsworth saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lila Mashhoud, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Garfield entered their tilt with Marshall on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Barristers. Considering the Bulldogs have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Clara Villalpando made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Villalpando was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Valerie Valencia, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Jema Aguiar was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs.
Garfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marshall only posted an OBP of .333.
Chatsworth's record is now 7-17. As for Garfield, their record now sits at 16-7.
Chatsworth came up short against Garfield in their previous meeting back in March, falling 11-7. Can the Chancellors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
