In what's become a running theme this season, the Gilbert Tigers gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 82-60 margin over Desert Ridge. Given Gilbert's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Desert Ridge is ranked 81st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gilbert found their leader in underclassman Caia Campbell, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and three steals. Aspen McClees was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds.
Desert Ridge's loss came despite strong showings from Saige Miller and Kaycee Steinke. Miller dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 rebounds, while Steinke scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Miller is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Herrera, who scored six points.
Gilbert's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.2 points per game. As for Desert Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Coincidentally, Gilbert and Desert Ridge will both be playing Queen Creek the next time they take the court. Gilbert will host Queen Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Desert Ridge will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
