On Thursday, the Liberty Magnet Patriots faced the Scotlandville Hornets in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Liberty Magnet came out on top against Scotlandville by a score of 54-47. The win was familiar territory for Liberty Magnet who now have four in a row.
It was another big night for Howard Gaskins Jr., who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Malek Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Despite the loss, Scotlandville still got an impressive performance from LaMarkus Williams, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Aaron Marshall, who scored 11 points.
Liberty Magnet pushed their record up to 27-4 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Scotlandville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-11.
Liberty Magnet will head out on the road to square off against Zachary at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Scotlandville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Catholic-B.R. at 7:00 p.m.
