The Mathews Blue Devils will square off against the Colonial Beach Drifters at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mathews has four straight wins, Colonial Beach has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mathews will bounce into Friday's game after beating Middlesex, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blue Devils came out on top in a nail-biter against the Chargers on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2.
Jordyn Cosby was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Zac Salvadori was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Colonial Beach and Lancaster had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Drifters lost 14-2 to the Red Devils on Thursday. Drifters fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Red Devils since on Thursday.
Colonial Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zachary Papanicolas, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Mathews' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Colonial Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Colonial Beach's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mathews has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. It's a different story for Colonial Beach, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Mathews' hitters?
Mathews skirted past Colonial Beach 13-12 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Drifters have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
