Baseball Recap: Piute Wins Going Away Against Green River

Piute got themselves on the board against Green River on Wednesday, but Green River never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Pirates. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Nash Fautin and Bodie Gayler did most of the damage at the plate: Fautin went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Gayler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Gayler has become a key player for Piute: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Gradee Montague was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Piute was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Piute and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Green River, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piute will face off against Pinnacle at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Thunderbirds will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Green River, they will challenge Bryce Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
