The Coronado Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Desert Pines Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Last Friday, Coronado didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Desert Oasis, but they still walked away with a 53-47 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Coronado.
Coronado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabrielle Brooks, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Creer, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Desert Pines faced Democracy Prep Agassi Campus in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Desert Pines took a serious blow against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on Thursday, falling 52-23. Desert Pines' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Tatiana Wilder was Desert Pines' leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Coronado is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Desert Pines, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Coronado hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.2 points per game. It's a different story for Desert Pines, though, as they've been averaging only 52.9 points per game. The only thing between Coronado and another offensive beatdown is Desert Pines. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Coronado was able to grind out a solid victory over Desert Pines in their previous matchup back in December of 2016, winning 63-50. Will Coronado repeat their success, or does Desert Pines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
