Basketball Recap: Corner Canyon Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Corner Canyon was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Copper Hills on Friday. The Corner Canyon Chargers were the clear victor by a 76-50 margin over the Copper Hills Grizzlies. With the Chargers ahead 42-19 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Tyler Mortensen went supernova for Corner Canyon, going 8 of 12 on his way to 23 points and six rebounds. Those 23 points gave Mortensen a new career-high. Bryton Valdes was another key player, going 7 for 11 en route to 15 points.

Corner Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Copper Hills only posted seven assists.

Copper Hills' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Curtis, who posted nine points and six boards. Eli Mulford also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Corner Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Copper Hills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Corner Canyon will head out on the road to take on Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.5 points per game this season. As for Copper Hills, they will be playing at home against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Hills is facing Riverton at the right time seeing as Riverton is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
