Basketball Game Preview: Mays Raiders vs. Pace Academy Knights

The Mays Raiders will face off against the Pace Academy Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mays is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Midtown just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a hard 86-69 fall against the Knights.

Despite the defeat, Mays got top-tier performance from Davenport Cox, who went 12 for 22 on his way to 35 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was Cox's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Omari Barnes, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Mays smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Pace Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They breezed by Drew to the tune of 83-32. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

Pace Academy pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.2 points. As for Mays, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.
