On Tuesday, Leonardtown opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-34 loss to Patterson Mill.
Leonardtown lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Teonne Thomas, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Gretchen Fleck was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Patterson Mill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kiley Wilhelm out in front who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Wilhelm is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylie Madsen, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Leonardtown has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Patterson Mill, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Leonardtown will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against McDonough at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully McDonough focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Wednesday. As for Patterson Mill, they will face off against Aberdeen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
