Softball Recap: Havana Extends Winning Streak to Four

Havana waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central Bluejays. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Ducks also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Maddie Howerter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaydi Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jenna Brooks also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Havana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in four consecutive games.

Havana pushed their record up to 20-3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Havana will square off against Beardstown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Ducks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, they will face off against Delavan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
