It was a good run, but the Eldon Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. Their tough 63-40 loss to Smith-Cotton might stick with them for a while. Eldon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Smith-Cotton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2015.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Delaney Mcghay, who scored 13 points. Mcghay scored a full 32.5% of Eldon's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sydney Halderman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists.
Eldon's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Smith-Cotton, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Eldon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Buffalo at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Buffalo is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Smith-Cotton, they will head out on the road to face off against Harrisonville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Harrisonville is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
