Basketball Recap: Dakota Ridge Takes a Loss

Dakota Ridge lost against Standley Lake back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Dakota Ridge Eagles took a 55-40 bruising from the Standley Lake Gators. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Gators are ranked 67th).

Despite the loss, Dakota Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emery Bowman went 9 for 14 on her way to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bowman has scored all season. Darian Lewis was another key player, putting up 14 points and six boards.

Standley Lake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mikela Alvarado, who went 7 of 9 en route to 20 points and four steals. Alvarado has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rae Coronado, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points along with five assists and five steals.

Dakota Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Standley Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Dakota Ridge has already played their next contest, a 48-32 defeat against Colorado Academy on the 31st. As for Standley Lake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 67-11 victory against Pomona on the 1st.
